Legacies is a new Netflix original series that was released on December 18th, 2018. It’s based on the book series Legacies by the author Kass Morgan and is set in Mystic Falls, Virginia. What is Legacies?
Legacies tell the story of three generations of supernatural beings who are at war with each other. It centres on a young girl named Hope Mikaelson, daughter to Klaus and Caroline from The Vampire Diaries. She goes off to school in Mystic Falls. Where she meets her new friend Alaric Saltzman’s twins; Josie and Lizzie, as well as their friends; Eli Goldsworthy (son of Damon Salvatore) and Shane Rayburn (who has a crush on Josie). They all team up together for misadventures. While also trying to save humanity by preventing an ancient problem that can’t be solved alone.
The show features many faces from past series such as; Stefan Salvatore (played by Paul Wesley), Bonnie Bennett (played by Kat Graham) and Tyler Lockwood (played by Michael Trevino).
What does Legacies have to offer?
The show is said to be a mix of Gossip Girl, Harry Potter and The Vampire Diaries. There are some new faces. That will include Hope’s half-brothers; named Josiah Mikaelson and Landon Kirby. Played respectively by Vincent Young Jr., Junior and Jason Barry, while her mother Caroline will be portrayed by Sarah Jeffrey.
In addition, there will also be a character called Klaus’ daughter Henrik; who is described as “a woman in her twenties” with the ability to see anyone’s future for five minutes; after making physical contact with them.
About the show:
The first episode of Legacies is set to air in October. And will be a spin-off from The Originals, which had just wrapped up its five-season run on Freeform. There are no plans for the show’s narrative to crossover; with that of any other CW shows. But there may be some references or Easter eggs; referencing their respective shared universe; as has been done across different age groups before (in this case between 20th Century Fox Television’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Warner Brothers’ Smallville).

Conclusion: Legacies is a spin-off from the hit show The Originals, and will air on Netflix in October. It stars Danielle Rose Russell as Henrik, with Matt Davis returning to reprise his role as Alaric Saltzman. Jami O’Brien serves as showrunner for Legacies which was developed by Julie Plec.

Legacies Season One has been met with mostly positive reviews, scoring a solid 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Hollywood Reporter said, “This Netflix spinoff of the CW’s vampire drama mixes teen angst, high school hijinks and supernatural menace in its first season.” Variety praised it for being more grounded than The Vampire Diaries saying “…the show takes a decidedly less sexy approach to storytelling…”. TVLine said”A solid, enjoyable drama with a clear mission statement that’s just as good at sexy supernatural teen fare”.
