Mindhunter season III is the third and final season of Mindhunter which aired on Netflix from October 13 to November 18, 2019.[11]
The first episode was screened at a TCA panel in August 2018,[12][13] while the teaser trailer for the series was released online by Netflix in July 2019.[14] The second half of the 12-episode season premiered globally on Netflix on October 15th, with episodes being made available weekly.
In contrast to previous seasons that spanned over one year each time (the first spanning 1977–1978; the second spanning 1979–1980), this last installment spans just five months: May through September of 1980. This shift allows for more insight into how the serial killer’s mind works, and how their work is affecting the agents’ personal lives.
Mindhunter season III is a dramatic thriller series that explores two FBI profilers who develop criminal profiling techniques as they try to understand why criminals commit crimes. The show stars Jonathan Groff as Holden Ford and Holt McCallany as Bill Tench respectively. In Mindhunter Season III both of these characters are retired from active duty in 2006 when an unidentified individual begins contacting them about unsolved homicides he believes were committed by his father, Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton), aka “the Co-Ed Killer.”
The third installment adds four new regular cast members: Khandi Alexander plays psychiatrist Wendy Carr; Damon Herriman portrays incarcerated murderer Charles Manson; Michael C. Hall as serial killer Ed Kemper (also known as “Co-Ed Killer”); and Nishi Munshi, who plays Dr. Wendy Carr’s daughter, Jasmine

Mindhunter III Season Official Trailer:
Netflix released an official trailer for Mindhunter’s third season on September 24th, which you can watch below, and features a voiceover by Dr. Wendy Carr as she reads from her diary entries in the first two seasons of the series before introducing Cameron Britton’s character Jimmie Lee Smith at episode one.

‘This is who we are,’ Dr. Carr narrates. ‘What you see on the surface doesn’t tell us anything about what’s going on underneath.’
Mindhunter III Season Length: Ten Episodes in two seasons, each to be released a month apart from one another (Nov 27 and Dec 25). The season will also take place over an even longer period than either previous installment as it continues to track the growth of serial killers into 1980s America.”
“We’re aware that there’s always been some ambiguity for people at home between whether this is fiction or reality,” showrunner Joe Penhall said during TCA panel today, “and I think they’ll find out why that might have been… It’s not a secret that you can work it out.

There are clues.”

“It’s a show about minehunters, and what I think is going to happen in season three – and this is just my theory, but it came out of conversations with the other writers- that we talk about how you catch someone who can’t be caught,” Penhall said. “What does that look like? It looks like chaos.”
