Hunter X Hunter is back! The highly-anticipated fifth season of the popular shonen series has been confirmed to air on April 16th, 2016. But before you start getting excited about this news, let’s go through a few things that are essential for any Hunter X Hunter fan to know.

what is hunter x hunter?

“The hunter x hunter anime series has been running for about 17 years now since 2001 but there’s only been four seasons that have aired in Japan which are 1999-2000, 2002-2004, 2008-2011, 2015-2017 respectively. There was also a movie made back in 2011 called Hunter X Hunter: Phantom Rouge with voice actors from other popular animes like Naruto Shippuden or One Piece as well as some of the original Japanese ones who’ve appeared throughout the series’ run.

Casting details:

There is no doubt that this season will have one of the most stars studded casts in recent memory with additions like Yoshihiro Togashi himself (the original author), Madhouse animation studio head Masahito Marukawa and industry veteran Ryo Miyazaki as directors, Yuki Kaji as Gon Freecss and many more talented voice actors joining the cast. That being said it seems like these two are the only ones to have any experience with Hunter X Hunter.

Reviews:

The English dub has been met with mixed reception so far and it seems like a lot of people are really excited for the original Japanese voice cast since they’re quite familiar with the series but on the other hand, most popular anime shows nowadays use subtitles instead of dubs.

Ratings:

This season’s trailer was released at AnimeJapan 2016 without an official rating from CERO or MA15+ classification from ACB and this could mean that it will be either PG or even higher than MA15+

premiere:

The first episode of the new series ran on April 12th, 2016 at Tokyo MX. It can also be seen on other networks such as TV Osaka and tvk. The show’s opening theme song is called “Departure” by a band named Sora Amamiya x Kenshi Yonezu which apparently means they’re in charge of both the OP and ED songs for this season!

More about the series:

The original Japanese voice cast will be returning for this season and they’re quite familiar with the series. On the other hand, most popular anime shows nowadays use subtitles instead of dubs. The show’s first episode ran on April 12th at Tokyo MX which also airs on TV Osaka and tvk. It can also be seen outside of Japan through Crunchyroll but it is currently unknown if there are any plans for an English language version to come out soon. There was no rating from CERO or MA15+ classification from ACB given yet so we don’t know what kind of content (PG? higher than 15+) to expect later on during this season.”

In the original Japanese voice cast, we will see a lot of familiar faces with notable actors who have played characters in the series before. The English dub is still unknown at this time because there haven’t been any announcements for it yet. We don’t know what to expect from an ACB rating either so we’ll just wait and see how things pan out later on during the season.”
