What do you need to know about Babylon berlin season four?

Babylon Berlin is an original German production that has been sold worldwide (not set in English). The series was first aired on October 17 2017 by ZDF.

It is a crime drama series that follows Gereon Rath, who returns from the frontlines of World War I to find Berlin sunk in political and social chaos under the growing grip of communism…

The show has been praised for its sumptuous visuals and dramatic storylines but also faced criticism about the historical accuracy of plotlines. Initially commissioned as a two-season miniseries with 12 episodes each, season one was very successful which led to an order for three more seasons (24 x 90 minutes) on 18 March 2018 by ZDF; Season four premiered in Germany on February 24th, 2019

What’s the story of this season? and is it worth watching?

In Season three, Babylon Berlin was targeted by right-wing radicals from the Thule Society who wanted to destabilize Germany’s democratic government before Hitler could rise to power. The Communists are also trying to take down the Nazis while they can get away with it because their time will eventually run out when Stalin comes into power. Meanwhile, Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch) is searching for his sister so he has been investigating her disappearance which leads him through some dark secrets about Nazi families that control much of what happens in Berlin society but don’t play nicely together anymore.

While Season four is set in 1934, it feels like a prequel for the previous three seasons. Berlin is really getting divided into different factions and you can see how they all start to play off each other over time as World War II approaches. This season also has the iconic Fuhrer making his first appearance at a Nazi rally which shows that Hitler was starting to take things more seriously by this point while some of their opposition starts to show up after several years out of sight.

The stories are intense but there’s still levity sprinkled throughout too with not just Gereon Rath joking around with friends or Hannah Hoch (Luise Heyer) wisecracking her way through political rallies or police interrogations. You get to see a lot of ordinary Germans who are trying to live their lives in the midst of chaos.

This season is also really interesting because it’s easily been the most political one yet, and while I can’t say anything about Season Five without spoiling that for anyone, it seems like they’re going to get even more intense as time goes on from here. Plus there’s an appearance by Hitler himself! ___

Overall this was another great installment that does justice to some iconic figures whose stories have largely gone untold thus far such as Gertrud Scholtz-Klink or Ernst Rohm. It doesn’t feel quite as cohesive at times but it still captures what Berlin felt like before World War II began in earnest so it’s definitely worth checking out.
